A Personal Approach to Tutoring
I believe effective learning starts with understanding the individual student. Every learner has a different starting point, learning style, and expectations for their own performance. My role is to build a foundational understanding and bridge knowledge gaps through teaching methods tailored to each student, helping them develop the skills to achieve their goals.
Tutoring is not just about delivering information. It is about encouraging independent thinking, support, helping students feel capable in their abilities, and supporting their passion for learning and growth.
Experience & Qualifications
I am a Ph.D. Materials Science Engineer who discovered my passion for teaching after a 20-year career as an engineer and research scientist. I use my professional experience to show students exciting ways to apply the subjects they're learning through real-world examples.
My educational career started with classroom teaching in engineering departments at Western Washington University and several Washington Community and Technical Colleges, where I learned to craft a teaching style that met the needs of students with a wide range of academic backgrounds. Later, I accepted a full-time position teaching Electronics and Clean Energy Technology at Bellingham Technical College. During my five years at Bellingham Tech, I prepared both high school and adult learners for university transfer or successful careers in the trades.
I began private online tutoring in 2020 when I realized how much my students needed regular, real-time interaction with an educator to keep them engaged and maintain their learning momentum. Since 2020, I have provided one-on-one online tutoring to help both high school and college students across the United States succeed in their academic courses and achieve the scores they need for college-prep tests and professional licensing exams.
